There are hundreds and hundreds of Random Acts of Kindness that have been done in Derek’s honor. And it would be impossible to post everyone here to start, but we will going forward. Every single Act that has been done fills my heart and my soul with a warmth that is unexplainable. To know that someone did something kind for someone else, expecting nothing in return, and used Derek’s card to help pass that on, is truly humbling.
A Father/Son Moment – Janesville
Ok! So I am in jainsville and I just did a random act for a father and his son. He was talking to his son about going to a Cubs game this year and was teaching him things throughout our dinner, I couldn’t help but notice and think of the amazing father Steve Lendosky is and this would of been a moment that he would have had with Derek. It melted my heart and I’m still crying from this experience!

Imagine Dragons – Full Circle
Over the past two and a half years, our family has done hundreds of Acts of Kindness in Derek’s name. It’s not often that the Act comes full circle. Last year we went to go see Imagine Dragons in Milwaukee, the group that sings Radioactive, Derek’s favorite song. While there, I think we did about 20 Acts of kindness handing out Imagine Dragons merchandise we bought there at the concert, giving them out to young and old. While handing them out, Lucas and I gave out an Act to some younger women and a man. Little did we know that they held on to the Act of Kindness card and note, and waited til they could repay the Act, and did one back to us. The people that we gave the Act to were from FM 102.1 in Milwaukee. The DJ John Schroeder contacted us Monday and asked us if we would like to see the one night only showing of Imagine Dragons in concert at the Marcus Theaters. What a cool Act to give back, and even cooler that they held on to this Act for all this time, only to repay us back with more Imagine Dragon stuff. If you haven’t listened to their Smoke + Mirrors cd, I suggest you do. The songs from there are on multiple video games and even more recently in Kung Fu Panda 3. Great music. So, I just wanted to share how kind this Act was, and how it came full circle.
Another Act at Disney!
More Disney Magic!!
AJ English – One year ago my son Denny received an act of kindness in Derek’s name at the magic kingdom. He is sooo excited to do it for more kids today. #doitforderek #sweetangel #magickingdom — with Brian English at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
Cookbooks to England
I was gifted with a cookbook by Recipes of North Dakota from a lovely gentleman who saw my request to this group on Facebook enquiring about whether or not this cookbook could be posted to England. He was a complete stranger to me and did this touching act of kindness as I am originally from South Dakota now living in England and he thought it would give me joy to read the recipes of food I had grown up with. My cookbook arrived by parcel force today and not only will I enjoy the book but will also do a random act of kindness in memory of Derek for someone else. Thank you Robert Dilley!

A Trip To Poland?!?!
We were given some cash along with Derek’s card from friends of ours. We chose to do a random act of kindness. We met a high school student raising money to fund a trip to World Youth Day in Poland. She was adopted when she was 6 years old and never thought she would have the opportunity to return to Poland where she was born. We gave her the cash and told her to buy herself a memento from her trip.
Another Culvers Act
I finally had the chance to doitforderek at Culver’s on Friday night. I’ll admit, it was a little bit about me feeling guilty….I was getting ready to go through the drive-thru and got in front of a truck (not really cutting him off intentionally, but it might have looked like it to him). So when I went up to pay for my fish fry dinner, I also paid for his and his passenger. I didn’t have any cards with me, so I told the cashier to let them know why it was paid for. Hopefully she passed it on to him. to the driver of the white truck – I wasn’t trying to jump in front of you, I thought you were trying to park.

McDonalds Treat
About a year ago, someone paid for my meal in the McDonalds drive-thru and made my day. Since then, I have always wanted to do the same for someone else. Therefore, after cashing a check I got for my birthday this past week, I decided to do just that. I went to the local McDonalds to get my mom and I lunch and prayed that someone would get behind me in the drive-thru. As I ordered, a lady pulled up behind me right on cue. When I got up to the drive-thru window I paid for the meals and asked them to tell her to look up the website doit4derek because that is why I was doing it. It made my whole day to see the smile on her face in my rearview mirror and hear her yell thank you out her window as I drove away:)
