There are hundreds and hundreds of Random Acts of Kindness that have been done in Derek’s honor. And it would be impossible to post everyone here to start, but we will going forward. Every single Act that has been done fills my heart and my soul with a warmth that is unexplainable. To know that someone did something kind for someone else, expecting nothing in return, and used Derek’s card to help pass that on, is truly humbling.

Dubuque, IA – Applebees
Hello, my name is Christi Wertzberger, my family & I live in Dubuque,IA. We experienced an act of kindness for Derek while out to eat @ Applebee’s this afternoon, after we had finished our meal & were waiting for our bill, the waitress came out & handed me Derek’s card & told me our bill had been taken care of. I was so touched by what you guys are doing to keep your son’s memory alive. Instead of dwelling on the awfulness your spreading kindness to keep your son’s memory, I’m so sorry for your loss, no parent should ever have to go through what your going through. I think it’s wonderful what your doing! I had my 3 kids with me at the time my oldest daughter who is 10 herself, was so excited about how we are going to repay this act of kindness, it was all she could talk about on the way home, I should be thanking you for helping me teach her kindness! I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to tag you, but I did post what happened to us on my Fbook page, everyone thought it was so awesome, you can go on my page & tag if you like, I wasn’t sure? We have a couple different ideas for what we would like to do. Again I am so sorry for you & your family’s loss of your son, he looks like he was a sweetheart, I’m sure he is looking down smiling at all the kind acts that are happening in his memory! We are so excited to be a part of this! Thank You,
Christi Wertzberger
Bismark, ND – Robert Dilley
Here is the context of what Robert is doing. He has done a TON of ACTS in North Dakota.
Well people thought I was a bit crazy for collecting DVDs since 2005, amassing a collection of over 1,700 DVDs, but today I found the reason for building that collection as I went to the Local Children’s Hospital with a big tote donating over 50 DVDs that included almost every Disney or MGM Children’s movie that I had. The nurses were shocked as almost every movie was still sealed in plastic. It is like I told them, I thought they would be more useful there than collecting dust on the shelves at my house. I figure I will sort out another 100 or so to give them. It was kind of hard to give up a couple of them like The Gnomemobile and The Three Lives of Thomasina but if I really feel the need to have the movie, I can get another copy. Just wanted to tell you I am going to hand out about 6 more cards tonight. I will be heading to the hospital where my grandson is and will make the second delivery of movies and then I am going to challenge the nurses to do something to pay it forward in Derek’s honor!

Culvers, Spring Green
We were at Culver’s in Spring Green on Thursday night to grab some ice cream and when we got up to pay the attendant handed me a card and said my meal was paid for by the gentleman in front of us. Thanks so much! We’ll pay it forward!

Brandon, SD – The Recipient
Love seeing both ends of the Act posted!
“I was waitressing at a restaurant in Brandon SD and received a 100% tip and an act of kindness card of Derek’s. The card meant more to me than the tip. The tears are still flowing. Derek has touched my heart at a time when I needed it. Not the money, but the act of kindness. I’m sooo sorry that Derek lost his life, but I’m thankful that my heart was touched by this young man without knowing him. I WILL PASS IT ON!!!”

Brandon, SD
We were on the last night of an awesome South Dakota vacation with our kids, but we still had our Doit4derek card in our pocket, having not felt the right moment all week to pass it on. Ironically, the opportunity came for us to pay it forward at our last meal, to a well-deserving waitress in Sioux Falls (Brandon, SD), after an emotional day learning of yet another loss of a 9 year old in a neighboring town. In the shadow of this event, it was so awesome to do this RAOK in memory of Derek!

Blaine, MN – At Chipolte
I was in Chipotle (Blaine, MN) yesterday with my (very rambunctious) 1.5 year old daughter, waiting in a very long line to get dinner for ourselves and my husband when we received a very nice surprise! We finally made it to the end of the line, ordered, and went to pay when the gentleman ahead of us presented us with a “Doin’ it of Derek” card and paid for our entire meal. It made my night! I can’t wait to pass it along! :)
